The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) was established in 1986. It is among the pioneering fashion education institutes, providing professional courses to the textile and apparel industry. NIFT has 16 professionally managed campuses throughout India, and NIFT Kolkata is one of the oldest. NIFT aims to be the benchmark for the quality of professionals in the fashion industry. Exam Structure
The NIFT Entrance Exam comprises different sections, each designed to assess specific skills and aptitudes for a career in fashion. They are as follows:
- General Ability Test (GAT): GAT evaluates your quantitative ability, communication ability, English comprehension, analytical ability, and general knowledge. It’s important for both undergraduate and postgraduate aspirants.
- Creative Ability Test (CAT): CAT focuses on grading your creativity. Here, you must demonstrate your ability to present unique ideas and think out of the box.
- Situation Test: For those who clear the written exams, the Situation Test evaluates your material handling and innovative abilities. You’ll be asked to create a model using provided materials, showcasing your creativity and understanding of the properties of materials.
Group Discussion and Personal Interview: For postgraduate programs, candidates who pass the written exams are invited for a group discussion and personal interview. These sessions assess your communication skills, subject knowledge, and overall personality.
